✨🤍BODY BUTTER🤍✨

The colder months are upon us! My hands are getting cracked, red, and itchy.
There are so so many ways to make a body butter so take this basic recipe and fix it to your needs:

🤍 1 part solid butter (ex. Shea butter, mango butter, cacao butter)
🤍1 & 1/2 parts liquid oil (ex. apricot kernel, jojoba, sweet almond, avocado)
🤍 optional: essential oil
• for a little bigger batch to keep on hard I would do 1/2 c solid butter & 3/4 c liquid oil, adding 4-5 drops of essential oil.

Super easy with just 2 necessary ingredients. But you can also spice it up by making combinations and/or infusing with herbs. Examples:

✨Shea butter & apricot kernel oil infused w/ rose & chamomile
✨cacao butter & sweet almond oil
✨mango butter & jojoba & avocado infused w/ calendula, yarrow, & lavender

When mixing and matching oils and butters just keep in mind how they react at different temperatures. Coconut oil for example I will treat as a butter in the winter, and a oil in the summer.

✨ to make: add ingredients to a double boiler (you can also just put a larger jar in a pot of water, make sure to not get water in it though!). Let it all melt together. Take off the heat and add just 2-3 drops of your essential oils if you so choose (keep in mind that essential oils can cause irritation, especially if using them on dry cracked skin). Next you can just pour it into a jar and let solidify. If you want a whipped body butter (like in the picture), add the melted down oils to a bowl and place in freezer until it is just solid but not hard. Using an electric mixer, mix the butter until fluffy and add to your container :)

The best time to apply this would be right after a nice hot shower or bath, so that those oils can lock in the moisture your skin absorbed from the water.

Tonight is the last full moon of 2021 🌕
We are coming upon a new year!

Making me reflect a lot on the past (almost) 12 months. This photo was taken while on a trip to Hawaii in March. Which I am so grateful I was able to do! It reminds me that even during hard times there is still so much to be happy and appreciative about.

During this time, the closing of one and beginning of a new, can be a lot sometimes…
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season, and also just wanted to give a reminder on a few notes:

- it can be a hard time of year for individuals with complicated family situations
- hard for individuals who have lost loved ones
- challenging for people who are struggling with what life is throwing at them
- hard for individuals who aren’t able to be in multiple places at once to spend time with everyone
- it is also a time of year that can be overconsumed with the want for material things and not the moments that need to be appricated!

For those who have an understanding, or are feeling overwhelmed by other reasons. I wanted to take a moment to say how much you are loved by so many! At the end of the day it comes down to the fact that all we can do is our best and cherishing the good times.

Maybe there is someone you want to reach out to. Check in on them and reconnect. Maybe there is a tradition you want to bring back and get people together for. Whatever it is, do it!!!

I know, kind of a random topic, but just wanted to share this reminder. That even during a time supposed to be full of happiness it can still be hard. And that even when it is hard we can still find so many things to bring us joy!

This also is not a post to be sad about. Yes, there are people that struggle around the holidays, but it is just the more reason to remember to reach out to loved ones! Let them know you are there and thinking of them, because even if you are not struggling it could still make your day as well❤️

Messy but so good!! Tofu scramble is an easy break

Messy but so good!! Tofu scramble is an easy breakfast to make for everyone to enjoy. It’s a great way to break your fast with a protein-rich meal.

In a cast iron, I sautéed two onions and two peppers, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. Once those are done cooking to your satisfaction, add some garlic, then scoot them over to the side and add your tofu block. I broke up the tofu in the pan and added smoked paprika, turmeric, nutritional yeast, cumin, garlic powder, and more salt and pepper. I had some spinach in the fridge, so I added that. I topped with a ton of cilantro and served!

Start your Saturday off with some gratitude and a plate full of goodness :)

How many house plants do you have?!🪴

I make this dish pretty often. Super good for when

I make this dish pretty often. Super good for when you want a nice hearty meal that is balanced! It’s also really not that hard to make for looking so good :)

Basically my take on general tso’s tofu haha

For the tofu there are a few options (depending on how you’re feeling lol):

1. Easiest way is to cut it into cubes and throw into the oven at 400 until golden brown and crunchy
2. You can also cube it and pan fry with a little oil, flipping till all sides are cooked
3. Lastly if you are really feeling it, you can bread them with a mix of 1 part starch (I use arrow root, you can also use potato or corn starch) and 2 parts flour. Add a little more oil to your pan and fry until all sides are golden!

* Usually I will add the sauce to the tofu in the pan at the end once you turn the heat off to let it thicken and coat the tofu. You can also just put it on the side to top everything at the end (which is what I did in this picture).

The sauce:
- Mix together equal parts sesame oil (or whatever you have on hand), maple syrup, a chili hot sauce, and soy sauce. Also some garlic powder and chili flakes. Taste it and add more of whatever you would like depending on how much heat, sweetness, slaty, etc. you would like. You can also add some water if it is too strong. If adding the sauce in with the tofu I will put just a very little bit of starch in it so that it gets nice and sticky, but if you do this it will get thick fast on the heat so don’t cook too long.

Broccoli:
- I will usually just steam the broccoli by putting it in a pan with a little water to cover the bottom and place a lid over top (since I don’t have a steamer haha). Sometimes I will add a little of the sauce at the end depending on how I’m feeling.

And thats it! I will have it with white or brown rice and call it a day.

Today so many of us around the world took a moment

Today so many of us around the world took a moment to think about what we are grateful for. If you celebrate the holidays or not, it is still a time to bring gratitude to light. It is a good reminder that you do not need to wait for one day a year to give thanks. A reminder that we can be grateful more often. Because life is hard and can be unforgiving. At times it can be challenging to give thanks when life is full of pain and heartache, but when there is good, really take in those moments… for real!

I am especially thankful this Thanksgiving for how many lessons I have learned the past year. I am thankful for the good and bad. I am thankful for the complicated, crazy, incredible life I was give with so many amazing people close to me. I give myself the moments I need to yell at how crazy life can be, but am forever grateful at the end of the day. And wish to never take that for granted!

Slow Sundays before the week begins 🤍

Just a reminder that taking care of yourself looks so different to everyone! It can also look different everyday for you.
Some days doing a big pile of dishes under running hot water and listening to music is my form of theory. Another day it will be dry brushing and making a new whipped body butter for the winter (got a super easy recipe for you guys coming soon). Maybe one day getting on my yoga mat brings me so much joy and energy, while another day a nice walk outside is exactly what I need. Lastly just getting back in bed and watching YouTube videos is perfect.
Everyday is meant to be different! It’s what keeps life fun and interesting :)

I am like obsessed with this combo, and I’m probably just a weirdo but thought I would share (maybe there are other weirdos out there 😂).

Simply:
- arugula
- dates
- almonds
- flaky salt

💫👌

You just get the perfect bite from arugula, sweetness from the date, crunch from almond, and saltiness! (If you have salted almonds you don’t gotta add salt).

Ugh so good 😂🙈

And if you don’t wanna eat it dry (like I do sometimes :) a simple simple vinaigrette that takes it to a whole other level is:

- apple cider vinegar
- extra virgin olive oil
- maple syrup

I have obviously just been enjoying it on its own but it could also be a really good salad base and add more toppings or like an edible decor to place a roast such thing on top of.

✨ I am also someone that can very easily feel unproductive.

So how do I combat this:
☑️ I make lists… 😂 writing down EVERYTHING I can think of that I wanna/need to get done. The more boxes the better!
☑️ I split tasks up into mini tasks. Giving me the opportunity to get the ball rolling.
☑️ I try my best to do something for my health (physical and mental), something fun, and something new. Change it up a bit!
☑️ try my best to do more earlier in the day so that I feel better and not rushed by the end of the day.

When I make a to-do list, not only do I write down my big tasks, but I put down all the little ones too. I mean who doesn’t like checking off a box?! Anything from submitting a homework assignment or cleaning the house to making the bed or drinking water. When you are able to see your progress you will be more likely to continue.

Your list does NOT need to look anything like mine. I will be honest and say that today was the first time I have done a workout in a lonnnnnggggg time. This is not my everyday list. Please please please do not compare what I did today versus what you did. We all have very different ideas of productivity and that is great! My list may look like I didn’t do anything compared to your day. Or it way look super long (again, because I have put down literally everything I needed/wanted to do. It’s both the big and little tasks that make me feel more productive in my day). I look at others and may wish I was able to do as much as them, or the other way around. But It is not a matter of who got more done in the day. This is not a competition between each other. It is simply a way to make the most out of your time :)

And with all that being said… it is also perfectly alright when we do not get everything on our to-do list done! Because there will always be tomorrow. And we can be grateful for all we accomplished yesterday.

What’s your favorite soup?

This is a soup a made probably over a year ago 😬 and it has just been sitting in the drafts (UNTIL NOW) waiting for a caption 🤦🏻‍♀️

So because of that I really don’t remember what I put in it 😂
It was some kind of miso with tofu, kale, mushrooms, and quinoa… that’s all I got.

Anyways point of the post beinggggg that the soup season is upon us so hopefully many recipes to come 🤪

A season of slowing down, reflecting, taking a breath!

The fall season is “officially” here. As the sun sets a little earlier we get shorter days and longer nights.

We have the next few months ahead of us to prepare for winter.

During this time we may be processing food to store, getting the last out of our gardens, bringing the sweaters back out. We are enjoying our favorite hot beverages. Going apple and pumpkin picking.

Taking in all the joys autumn has to bring!

I think this quote perfectly defines what a mushroom is and its mystical qualities. Pictured above is my roommate holding golden oyster mushrooms, or Pleurotus citrinopileatus, that she grew on the farm we are working on in Vermont. Successful mushroom cultivation of most types requires lignocellulosic material, which refers to a type of dry plant matter. The vegetative part of the fungus is called mycelium, which branches out in the plant material to produce a fruiting body, the mushroom. Mushroom cultivation is complex, but it can also be a fun experiment, depending on the mushroom species, for beginners interested in the process. My roommate is a beginner, as this is her first time inoculating mushroom spawn. She picked a promising mushroom species, the oyster, that is relatively easy to cultivate. Her process included:
-Finding a suitable location for the mushroom spawn
-Building a cage from metal fencing
-Filling the cage with straw as the cultivation substrate
-Placing the mushroom spawn inside the straw

Within a few weeks, golden oyster mushrooms started to fruit!

As the process went on, it was interesting to see the mycelium spread throughout the straw, and become fruit.
I am also in the process of learning about mushroom cultivation and the unique properties the fungus has. So much information! More to come on this:)
