(I just really liked the picture so wanted to post it 😂 but we can talk about bars now since we got the picture and all...)

I’ll tell you right now that shampoo and conditioner bars are the biggest “zero-waste” swap I made that I was so impressed I will not go back! When I first started hearing about them I never thought I could make the transition, but I went for it and bought one. I was so blown away that I have not gotten liquid shampoo and conditioner since. I have used it a few times when it was all I had and honestly I much rather the bar now.

So a few things I wish I knew before making this transition:

✨some companies only make shampoo bars. So they are like a two in one. If that works for you great! But for my hair I needed both a shampoo and conditioner bar. So I want you to know that they both exist, so no need to worry about leaving behind your silky, smooth, moisturizing conditioner cause you can get it in bar form!
✨not all bars are the same. Again... not all bars are the same. There are SOOOO MANY out there and I am not saying that hair care bars will work for everyone, but I want you to know that there are many to try from that are all very different so there is a good chance you will find one you like :)
✨traveling will be so so so much easier!! You don’t have to pack such big containers and worry about not having enough. You can also bring them in your carry on bags on a plane! Even if I liked the liquid version more I would probably have the bars to travel because they are so much easier... I think

Those are my biggest reasons to give them a try haha 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Looking at the little things in life 😊

You don’t need something big to happen in your life in order to be happy, grateful, or even sad.

Often times for me it’s the little things that have the biggest impact on my mood and how I feel. Something someone said, the smile they gave me, the sand in my toes, the suns rise and set, or a delicious bite I had.

I’ve been in Hawaii the past few weeks so not a lot of recipes and herbal products being made. Mostly just doing lots of thinking (hopefully these kind of posts aren’t overwhelming you or annoying 😅).

💭 I have had some crazy dreams the last few weeks, mostly relating to people close to me. I don’t know why I have the weirdest dreams 🙈 but I do and it’s little things like these that will stay with me for awhile. Don’t know if others have this experience, but for me I can be super impacted by what people say or think towards me, and in a dream it can take me for a crazy ride when I don’t know what is a dream and what actually happened.

So yeah I don’t know haha. My point being the little things in life have just as much an impact as the big things. Or sometimes even more of an impact because we may not realize the little thing that is subconsciously on our mind.

On another note of little things in life... we have recently gotten a lot of new followers and I wanted to say thank you to all that have been supposing us and what we share!!!💕

Lastly, can we take a minute to appreciate how adorable these tiny shells are :)

I am appreciative for all my life has given me. The good, that has kept me going. The bad, that has helped me grow. And the ugly, that has taught me. All together making me who I am today.

I don’t think things change everyday or that you can wake up and be new. I do think that things can change in a moment you may least expect and that each day you are becoming more true to yourself.

We take it all day by day, second by second.

Yet again can not wrap my head around the fact that we are beginning another month in 2021. As we say goodbye to March 2021 I encourage you to welcome April 2021 with open arms.

The month where places that have winter really see the change in it coming to an end. The month where everything starts coming back to life and waking up. The first month of the year that has longer days.

Resolutions do not have to start at the beginning of the year, at the end of another. They can happen midweek, beginning of a month, at the end of a day. They also do not have to start all at once. They can be gradually eased into.

This April I am saying yes to more things that scare me, in a good way. Expanding my horizons. It’s not gonna happen all at once, but it’s going to start happening more.

Morning thoughts 💭......

I have been thinking a lot about what the future is going to look like, for me personally as well as for everyone as a whole. Not that we could have any picture of what the future looked like before a global pandemic, but now it’s even harder to really know what’s gonna happen next.

I find it a hard balance sometimes to live moments in the present while also being aware of how I can prepare my self for the future. Right now I’m in a place where I feel like all I am doing is just waiting for a point later on down the road. I need to live more in the moment and do the things I love and want to do now! I know I can’t do everything, but that doesn’t mean I have to wait for it all.

That being said I need to accept that the future will play out the way it should. I can’t spend my days now worrying about what I can do to make my future better (to the extent of that being all I do in the present).

So idk I guess the take away is that we can’t wait for the future to do what we want to do and we can’t do everything now (if that even makes sense). Things will play out the way they need to and in this moment do what you love!

p.s - I just signed up for a surfing class and I have never surfed before in my life 😂... live in the moment 🤙 (what am I doing 🙈)

Got some new products for my trip to Hawaii and really fell in love with all of them!! So now I’m here to share.

🌺 @fatandthemoon is a company that I have been wanting to try for quite some time now. I learned about them from a friend. The women who started the company is an herbalist (who is a friend of a friend). They have products that I haven’t seen anywhere else, the company is really incredible about caring for the environment, and I love the ingredient lists. Their products are really making herbalism, beauty, and skincare one thing, which I love! I got their shampoo and conditioner bars that have actually been super nice for my hair. Leaving it feeling cleansed and very nourished. They also smell amazing and have made the whole bathroom smell good haha 💕🙌

🌺 @cocokind is another company that I get really intrigued by when looking at the products and ingredient list. I got the oil to milk cleanser (I thought it was “oat to milk” for the longest time) I actually really like the product. They are doing some really awesome things to benefit the environment and things that I haven’t seen really anyone else start doing. I have been very intrigued because they also have products that I have not seen anyone else make. Very awesome 😊👍

🌺 @drbronner I have been using their products for as long as I can remember. I typically get the liquid soap, but decided to get a bar to travel. I think it is easier to travel with (especially to go on a plane). Because it’s more concentrated you don’t have to bring so much of it which is really nice! 🌱🤙

Idk there’s probably some name for this, but it’s so good, easy, and versatile!

✨make your pasta
✨in a pan combine olive oil and garlic on low till the garlic is cooked
✨at this point you can add whatever else you want. For this dish I added onions, sun dried tomatoes, and fresh herbs from the garden
✨add in a little bit of pasta water and stir real quick
✨add in your pasta to the pan and mix all together

Oh the never ending battle And when I say never

Oh the never ending battle

And when I say never ending that is what it is. Plastic doesn’t go away... as you can see. This being one of the biggest issues.

No plastic does not decompose, and on top of that it breaks down into smaller pieces that become a toxic part of the environment it’s found it’s way into.

It would be one thing if we were picking up fully assembled plastic bottles, caps, bags, fishing supplies, etc. to be able to make into new products. But no there is micro plastic (even much much smaller than what I carry in my hand) that we almost can’t even see.

It doesn’t go away. It just makes it harder and harder to clean up. The teeny tiny pieces of plastic is what gets into birds stomachs (making them feel full and starve), into our bodies, and into almost any other living thing exposed to it.

We can’t get rid of the plastic we have created, but we can try our bests to stop from making anymore. With the all the plastic we have already made we could reuse over and over again by mealtime it back down. There is really NO need to make anymore.

Veggie burger recipe!!!

Have made this one a few times and it has always been a hit (even for the ones who say they don’t like whats inside), so time to share 🙌
It’s a butternut chickpea base and I have had people who hate butternut and like this soooo just give it a shot before you bash...

Butternut chickpea burgers:

1 small ish squash (just not super large)
1 can of chickpeas
1/2 cup whole oats or oat flour
1/2 an Onion
2-3 cloves of garlic (can be roasted for a more mild and sweet flavor, or fresh for more pungent)
Spices of choice: Salt, pepper, aminos, coconut aminos, turmeric, garlic powder, etc.

💛roast your squash in the over (cut side down) until soft. Take out and let cool.
💛in a food processor add your onion, garlic, and spices. If you don’t have a food processor you can just chop it all up fine and smash together all ingredients with a fork.
💛add in the rest of your ingredients until it is the consistency you like.
💛form patties with you hands and place on a sheet pan that is slightly coated in oil.
💛bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until they start to get golden. Flip midway through. You can also just fry them up in a pan as well!

I take my knowledge for granted a lot of the time. I do have moments where I am so grateful for the life I am able to live, but for the most part I forget how much of what I know is not common knowledge.

A picture of a banana I understand is pretty weird to use as a visual for what I am saying. But this picture is what got me thinking...

Those little black dots are what’s left of seeds. Seeds that, if you go back many many modifications of this fruit, would have the ability to grow a new plant to produce more bananas. The banana we know today from the local grocery store is very similar, yet also very different to what would have been found if not modified by humans. The biggest difference being that these seeds are so so small compared to what they should be. That is so that we can eat them and out of convenience not have to pick them out. Now how could this be a bad thing? Well it’s not bad, but we have come to a point where we now have no viable seeds to plant. A banana grows from thick leaves that produce a bunch of bananas and when done is chopped at the base and grows again. These plants can only be chopped down so many times though.

I grew up traveling and being taught how the world works at a very young age. I was immersed in things that I just assumed everyone know. Come to find out when I would explain to someone how bananas grow very few people actually knew this.

In this day in age we may not know it but we are quite disconnected from how things work and why. Pretty crazy that even the simplest things are such a mystery.

First off I recommend doing school work outside for motivation 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ 🌳 ☀️

Second off taking medical terminology (and my other medical classes) is always fascinating to me in that literally everything in our bodies happen for a reason. When you really understand there is very little “mystery” to the system as a whole. Even looking into the terminology, what looked like just a hard to pronounce complicated word is actually made of many parts that has the whole definition within it.

A word we know the simple definition for: the action of taking out something.

This word can be used in chemistry, herbalism, construction, medical terminology, business, etc.

In herbalism we make extracts. Meaning we take plant matter and add it to a menstruum, or solvent, (the liquid used to extract the plant material into). Let them sit together for a period of time, with the option of using heat to draw out the medicinal properties of the plants. The solvent can be water (making tea), alcohol (tincture), glycerin (glycerite), oil (infused oil), among many others. By being able to make an extract it is easier to work with the plants in order to get the benefits.

This is a picture of a hair oil I made and was straining out to get the infused oil. The oils used was a mix of many, but even when mixed together they were just a slightly off yellow/brown color. After letting it sit and have the herbs infused into the oils as you can see it got much darker. This is the action of extraction!

The past few days, food wise, was pretty heavy 😅 so this morning a juice was the way to go for me! Light and easy on the digestive track, yet filling and wakes me up.

I think it is important to have a balance between what we put in our bodies as far as for enjoyment and nourishment (these things can also go hand in hand!). I do not regret any of the things I ate yesterday or the days before, but I know that my body is going to benefit from something light today. Though this juice is green it still tastes good. It had apple, cucumber, kale, jalapeño, lemon (reading this over it doesn’t sound the best but for real it’s not bad 😂). Even though I made this juice to nourish me it does not mean I am gonna make it disgusting.

Like I said before it is always best to listen to your body (physically and mentally). We need balance! And balance does not need to be defined as “good” & “bad” but as “what we needed then” & “what we need now” 😁

We are growing up in a world where consumers do not always know where their products come from, but that is changing. We want to become a part of that change and share how we determine good products to use and good foods to nourish our bodies. There is ground breaking science surrounding what is beneficial and also detrimental to what we put on and in our bodies. This news is released daily, however, because of modern day capitalism and financial incentives, media and big business can manipulate our minds into thinking differently from the science. They say humans changed the moment we learned how to control fire…

Fire itself has been around for longer than we could ever imagine, though all we learned from it was fear.

Wasn’t until we knew how it was made and controlled that we found a way to stay warm, cook food, and protect ourselves.

Survival changed for the better when humans learned that behind the destruction there was life.

Fire is essential for many ecosystems to thrive.

With an example being the great sequoias that rely on the dry burning heat to crack open their cones to release seed, as well as to naturally prune the branches above to bring in more sunlight to the saplings. Lastly the byproduct of plant material that goes up in flames is ash, being rich in essential vitamins and minerals for the trees survival.

These benefits from fire is no new discovery. The slash-and-burn method has been used in agriculture for generations to clear an area of land. This technique does not only clear the land, but helps build up the soil for better plant growth.

It is not only a matter of learning to control it, but also learning to work with it to achieve your goal.

Sometimes its what causes all the destruction that also creates life.

📚 2021 lit. list:
This year I want to make it a point to dive into the good ole paper book. Reading more, learning more, and growing more. Some books on my night stand include topics ranging from history and food to yoga and empowerment. Among many other topics being tucked away, books have also been putting in the back burner... until now (I hope). It is crazy how many books are out there. How many people have been able to write down their thoughts and share with the world. So much knowledge that we do not know about, maybe it’s just me but I find it fascinating 😂

2021 let’s read... may it be paper copy, electronic, or another format, let’s educate ourselves in what we are interested in. No time like the present 👍
